After attending college, I left not only with a diploma but also with a virus.
The fact that I took all the pre-cautionary steps - condom safely and securely on and yet I was still able to contract the virus left me emotionally emptied. I have been told my whole life that condoms were this magical device to prevent all STDs was false. Everything in sex ed was false. Condoms can only protect you against Sexually Transmitted Infections, the ones where you take a pill and the problem goes away. Not this. Viruses stay in your body forever. I felt betrayed. I felt completely deceived and 100 percent misinformed.
I have had ups and downs since first being diagnosed with HSV (Herpes Simplex II) and HPV (Human Papillomavirus), but in sometime it has made me a different person. There is not a day that goes by that I wish that I had made some better choices in my life, but in some respect I think that by me having this STD I have been trying to help others. I have had, through sharing my story with friends, found others with this inconvenience. I just hope that I can help one person and let them know that it is ok and offer a solution, I think that's all I ever wanted when I was first diagnosed...someone to say that it was ok, and that I would get through it. So, I started thinking how I could prevent my transmission to new partners AND have other people avoid this devastation.
"I wore a condom and still received the virus."
I knew something had to be done. I wanted to design something that would cover all the groin and pubic regions. Right off the bat, I knew condoms alone do not offer full protection against STDs because I wore a condom and still received the virus. After doing some research and finding out this this is a really popular problem I created the most beautiful, simple to use solution. Its safe, easy to use and helps protect and prevent genital herpes and warts and other sexually transmitted infections.
